TEXAS TECH HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER EL PASO / DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center/Department of Psychiatry
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Department of Psychiatry was founded in 1976, as part of what was then a two-year medical school in El Paso. Its mandate was to serve as part of a regional academic health center focused on primary care and the teaching of 3rd and 4th year medical students and residents. A residency in psychiatry was established and accredited in 1978. With the recent expansion to a four year medical school, the Department’s mission has grown to include teaching medical students in all four years of the curriculum.
The core faculty of the Department consists of clinicians and researchers from various disciplines, including psychiatry, psychology, and social work. The Department currently has two licensed clinical psychologists and one post-doctoral psychology fellow. There are various faculty and staff from the Department of Psychiatry that also serve clinical, research, and administrative roles. The Department has multiple clinicians and support staff who are fluently bilingual and who regularly provide services in Spanish. The Department conducts outpatient clinics daily in the El Paso Psychiatric Center located on campus.
